Women at Wisdom enjoyed unique storytelling classes with guest artist Mary McGrath, renowned Sacramento storyteller and teacher. Mary’s classes, called “Worn Stories,” taught artists how to perform personal stories based on memories from articles of clothing. With somber or light-hearted stories, both standing-room-only public performances were met with great enthusiasm.
Mary explained, “A year ago, I began attending poetry sessions and readings at Women’s Wisdom Art, and I heard poems being read in a form that was not always narrative, but always told a story about the poet. Then I noticed the sotries being told in the women’s art on the walls.” She likes spending time with the women at Wisdom in part because, “This is always such a cheerful place!” She’s eager to return to teach a second series of classes in the future. WWA is fortunate to claim Mary McGrath as part of our family, and we all look forward to more stories!
